Martha

Martha shows up as a leading female figure in canonical, noncanonical and Gnostic works.  She also has a role in legends.

Martha is the sister of Mary of Bethany and of Lazarus.  She's most famous for the Gospel story where Jesus and his disciples came to visit Mary & Martha.  Jesus was teaching while Martha was busyily trying to prepare dinner.  At one point  Martha asks Jesus to send Mary (many assume this is really Mary of Magdalene) back to help her.  Jesus chastizes Martha, saying that "Mary has chosen the better half".  The morale being that spiritual needs should take precedence to the physical and mundane.  [My grandmother hated this story.  She used to comment (referring to Jesus), 'Let them all go hungry and see if he talks so smart'.]

Martha appears in the Gnostic Gospels, notably in the Pistis Sophia where she demonstrates a superior wisdom.

In French Legends, Martha arrived on the shores of France after fleeing Jerusalem with Mary Magdalene.  Eventually, she finds herself in Tarascon where she helps subdue a local dragon.  Tarason is the cave region of sourthern France.  Subduing Earth energies (dragon) sees to again link Martha with a very physical theme, not dissimilar to the Gospel story linking her to an emphasis on the earth.  Many depictions of Martha, especially 7-day Saint Candles, also associate her with the earthy color of green.

What currents would be associated with Earth Energies?  What chakra?  Planet?  Tone?  Others?
